The 4066 is a quad analogue switch. These chips vary greatly between manufacturers. What we've found is that the Motorola version would perform the best and for us that meant low noise switching for broadcast quality. Other brands would thump and click on switching, possibly due to excessive dc offsets. This application is within the scope of the intended use of the chip.
